xxx. The Fighting Men of Oklahoma. A subscription publication listing and illustrating those World War II veterans whose families subscribed by buying a copy of the book. Volume I, published in 1946, is a summary of the history of the war. Volume II, published in 1948, starts the rosters, which are essentially random entries, although in rough alphabetical order. Entries often include a photograph and biographical data. Since the information was provided by the veteran or the family, it is not always precisely accurate. This was supposed to be a 6-volume set, but there is no record of more than two volumes being published. $50.00

South Dakota in World War II.  A compilation of records relating to South Dakotans who served in World War II, with brief unit histories and rosters of several units.  Plus, a chapter listing citations for South Dakotans awarded the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross and other decorations.  A second volume was planned to contain the records and citations of all South Dakotans, but this apparently was never completed.  Indexed. This is an example of one of many state county city books for WWI and WWII.  Very useful for local research and lists of medal recipients.

xxx. Army List and Directory.  Published bi-monthly by the Adjutant General’s Office.  A listing of Army officers, with their service numbers and units of assignment.  These apparently were published in the 1920s and 1930s.  The November 1929 issue has 319 pages. $35.00

Army Register.  Published annually, listing all active and retired officers of the Army.  The early editions included all promotions and listed units of assignment.  By the 1950's, the Army Register was published in three volumes.  Volume I included active and retired US Army officers; Volume II included Army of the United States and other retired lists; Volume III was the honorary retired list. 1880s 1917 $40.00 each
